Captain Steve Lang (Left) presenting Brian French with the Lakeside Trophy. At Last!!! After six runner-up positions, Brian French was beginning to doubt if he would get his hands on a trophy. However, in a closely fought match over the Essex and Cambridgeshire courses at Heydon Grange, his 38 points off ¾ handicap saw the 11 handicapper secure the narrowest of victories over Mel Marks on countback. They were closely followed by Ray Nicholls on 36 points and Rob Nicoll and Dave Brown on 35.
