On Saturday 4th November Heydon Grange
held the final men's trophy of the golfing year - the First Class
Shoot-Out. Reserved for an elite field of 16 players who topped the
season-long Ataxia Order of Merit, competitors played 18 holes of
stableford format golf with the top 5 then progressing to a shoot-out
format over four holes. Ian Brushett won the stableford phase with 37
points and went on to qualify for the shoot-out phase with Malcolm
Knobel-Forbes, Bruce Kempton, Paul Scott and Mel Marks. Paul went out at
the first shoot-out hole with a visit to a greenside lake followed by
Mel at the second missing a 2 foot putt for par. Club Captain Malcolm
likewise missed a short one for par on the 3rd hole leaving Ian and
Bruce to contest the par-3 4th. Ian calmly put his tee shot pin high and
under the ensuing pressure, Bruce visited the lake leaving Ian to take
the spoils.
Victory in the Shoot-Out completed an
extremely good year for Ian - he regained his title of overall Club
Champion, won the season-long Ataxia Order of Merit, won the Summer
Pairs Knock-Out with partner Gwyn May and was runner up in the Summers
Singles Knock-Out.
