11 October saw the Men's
Vice-Captains Shoot-Out and Ladies Captains Shoot-Outs over the
Essex course with the usual format of one player dropping out
per hole leaving the winner ('last person standing') victorious
after the 9th. Gloria Carse (right and bottom right) beat Helen
Leigh in the Ladies event.
The Men's event was set up with two fields of nine playing over 8 holes with the winners of both groups going head-to-head down the 9th hole. Bob Bridges - who has been seriously ill - battled through the first group overcoming David Brown on the 8th. David Smallman edged Adrian Patterson to lead the second group. In a very sporting gesture - David Smallman immediately conceded the 9th to Bob without a shot being taken. Below, Chris Collinson presents Bob with his trophy in what was a very popular win. |
