On Sunday 7th of August ten brave souls took on the Vice Captains shoot-out over the Essex course with some windy conditions:
- 1st Hole: Neil Butterworth was the 1st man to fall with a 7
- 2nd hole: There was a 7-man chip off to decide the hole - David Tomkins making a 4 and everyone else scoring 5. The chip off saw Reggie missing out.
- 3rd hole: Phil Back went out after a 6 man chip off
- 4th hole: Would people go for the green or play safe? As it turn out some did but it was David Tomkins who went out after a chip off with Joseph Koza
- 5th hole: Three men contested a chip off here - Ray Charles was the man to go out
- 6th hole: David Brown lost in a 3 man chip off
three holes to play and things were getting tight with four men left....
- 7th hole: Joseph Koza went out - no chip off was needed for the first time since the 1st hole
- 8th hole: three men left - Steve king was the man to fall short after playing some good golf on the first 7 holes
- 9th hole: Kevin Power and Roy Bell to fight it out on the last and it was Roy Bell who, after being in the last two players on three previous VC shootouts, came home to win the event with a par 5 to Kevin's bogie 6
Well done to Roy - and just a quick thank you to all who played and to those who helped
- especially John Black for helping me to referee
Regards
Paul Chamberlain Vice Captain.
