In the event of one round being cancelled due to weather, it will be rescheduled – probably during February |
For those new to the Winter League, it operates as follows:
- Eight rounds at 2-3 week intervals played off yellow tees
- Teams of three (‘on-the-day’ substitutes acceptable)
- Different formats each round: eg scramble, best 2 of three stableford points per hole etc
- £10 entry fee per team per round and cash prize to winning team of each round awarded on the day
- Points awarded on the basis of position in each round – winner is the team with most points overall. Club trophy to the winners.
- Entry allowed only for members (including subs)
- Points per round: 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
- Ties for any position mean points are shared (eg if two teams share first position, they share 10+8 points = 9pts each). All shared points are rounded to the nearest half point.
- Any team DQd does not score any points
- The winning team from each round has a 2-shot handicap reduction for all remaining rounds (1 shot if win is shared with another team).
- Teams can accumulate more than one reduction.
- See latest standings here
- Each team MUST include at least one non-family member
- Once a team has played in a round, no changes or transfers are allowed (only ‘on-the-day’ substitutes)
- All rounds start at 8:00am though if teams want occasionally to play early they can do so by prior arrangement.
- Tee times are bookable on the previous round or on the day on a ‘first come/first serve’ basis.
- Teams can accumulate more than one reduction.
Substitutes:
- Any male club member may be a substitute on the day - 5 day members need to agree green fees payable with the club
- non members may not participate
- Lady members may be substitutes provided that there is no organised ladies event (competition, ladies winter league or match) on the same day and there has been no response from any men members to a web request.
Putting teams together:
- Is it not essential that every team competes in all rounds
- Most teams may arrange substitutes if they need to (but handicap reductions apply to the team NOT individual players)
- If several teams are short of people on the day, they generally group together on the day in threes (but can only represent one agreed team!)
- In extremis, teams of two can play but special handicap rules may apply depending on the format.
